The students and staff members
of Anee's School sector 69 Mohali on Wednesday congregated to celebrate
Lohri at the school campus where a huge bonfire was lit. A colorful
function was organized at the campus to celebrate the festival of
Lohri.
Mr Aneet Goel, M.D, Anees Group of Schools was the chief guest on the occasion. Mrs. Harpreet Grewal, Principal, Anees School lighted the bonfire. Students and staff encircled around the bonfire. Groundnuts and Reweri were distributed to everyone present there to enjoy the celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Aneet Goel highlighted the importance of
festival. He told that it was an auspicious day, which marked the
culmination of winter and was a symbol of fertility.
He said that Lohri is a grand event of social and cultural integration,
bringing about unity, amity, harmony among all castes and community. It
is a time when people from all castes and social strata come together
forgetting all differences and grievances.
Harpreet Grewal, Principal, Anees School encouraged the students and
staff that they should celebrate this Lohri especially for girls. He
said that earlier everyone celebrated Lohri when a baby boy was born in
the family, but not for girls. But now with changing time, girls and
boys have equal status in society and people have started to celebrate
Lohri on the birth of girl child as well.
The Students of the school presented cultural items on the occasion and presented folk and traditional dances . Apart from singing folk songs, students danced to the tunes of dhol. Poems and songs were recited in praise of one of the hero of Punjab, “Dulha Bhatti” who used to help the poor and fought for their rights.
